Equalify Inc. and the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Technology Solutions are pleased to announce that Equalify will now be maintained and developed in partnership with UIC’s Digital Accessibility Team.
Together, we believe this transition creates a stronger foundation for the future of web accessibility. By unifying Equalify’s open-source platform with UIC’s institutional commitment to accessibility, we are able to deliver a product-focused roadmap, improved services for stakeholders, and a model of innovation that strengthens UIC’s leadership in the field.
“This partnership ensures Equalify’s mission continues, backed by UIC’s long-term commitment to advancing digital accessibility for everyone,” said Blake Bertuccelli-Booth, Equalify Inc. CEO and now Assistant Director of Digital Accessibility at UIC.

Advancing Accessibility
All of Equalify’s repositories, infrastructure, and community contributions—more than 67 repositories, 696 contributors, and 21,795 commits—will now be supported and advanced by UIC. Equalify will remain fully open-source under the AGPL license, continuing to welcome public contributions while benefiting from UIC’s resources and research capacity.
Together, we are pursuing a clear development roadmap:
- Alpha Release (Nov. 1, 2025): Easy one-hour deployment with stable 100-page scans.
- Beta Release (Jan. 1, 2026): Faster 30-minute deployment, scanning 100 pages/minute, cost efficiency under $1,000/month, and improved documentation.
Equalify Inc. will commercialize these Open Source solutions, providing paid support and hosting services.
A Shared Commitment to Open Source and Impact
For Equalify, this transition ensures sustainability and growth. For UIC, it represents an expansion of our public mission: to build tools that not only serve our campus community but also advance accessibility globally.
“By bringing Equalify into UIC Tech Solutions, we are demonstrating that universities can lead in solving real accessibility challenges and advancing accessibility through innovation,” said JaEun Jemma Ku, Director of Accessibility at UIC.
